FREE MICHAEL MCGEE!!!

I'm completely outraged by the arrest of Milwaukee Alderman Michael McGee, Jr. This is just another example of the racist machine that exists here in Milwaukee and their fear of a powerful man of color. Alderman McGee has done nothing but good for the 6th District, serving only the interests of his constituency.

The Milwaukee Police Department and the Feds have been gunning for McGee since he entered public life. Before that, they targeted his father, who also served selflessly as Alderman of the same district. The behavior of the racist Milwaukee media during this past week in dealing with McGee's arrest has been deplorable. The TV news and radio programs and newspapers who have decided to make this a major news story should be ashamed of themselves.

It has been pointed out by prominant local media types that when white local political types have gotten into legal trouble, they weren't paraded around in handcuffs and humiliated in public. Alderman McGee is being treated unfairly because he's black AND because he's a strong black man who is the son of a strong black man. McGee is now being mocked by racist white people while he goes through this public humiliation at the hands of the racist justice system. He's also being mocked and criticized for calling in to a local urban morning radio show and singing, as well as being accused of trying to get his supporters to contribute to his legal expenses.

I'm sickened by this treatment of a good man who only wants to serve his city.

Is there a Michael McGee the third? This family has been a part of my life since my youthful days when burning tires rolled boldly down the streets of Milwaukee. First Mike Sr. gets taken off the air.. I'm not sure what I'll do if they take Junior from me too.

Even Robert Miranda, who claims to be a very close friend of McGee, could not point to one specific piece of good this man has done in his community, aside from what all Common Council members are obligated to do as part and parcel of their job descriptions ("helping people navigate City Hall" was as close as he could come).

You, like other guilt-ridden white reactionaries, refer vaguely to all the "good" he has done in his district, but I'd like to hear some specific examples. And then I'd like to hear from the countless black constituents whose calls he won't return, whose business licenses he's lobbied against in Bronzeville and who have been on the receiving end of inappropriate criticisms of their sexual orientation, their color or their politics.

Gosh, Jon Anne, you almost sound like Mark Belling. Mike Sr. wouldn't have ever allowed you in to his press conferences cuz you are the racist white media. This post has inspired me to remix "Free Nelson Mandela", changing the who to free person part, and will be performed at my next Bremen gig.

Well that's interesting. I didn't know we now can equate the McGees( the whole clan) with Nelson Mandela,one of the greatest, most resilient and heroic revolutionary of our times. How dare you or anyone to even bring his name up in this dialogue. I am an atheist but I still hold him and his name in the highest form of reverence. McGee Jr. albeit, has even given his father a bad name. I can understand what the father had gone through in the years of struggle for equality as he grew up in the fifties and sixties and his ensued bitterness towards the society as whole, but Jr. has very little to cry about especially after his breech of trust with his constituency. they hand cuffed as they'd do with any criminal. they should have done the same with any white public servant who broke the law. Two wrongs don't make one right.

What a bunch of crap! I am so sick of hearing about the poor stuggles of the Mcgee family. Jr got into office by sucking the tit of his father's notoriety. Neither father or son have done anything to improve the lives of those they serve and as a matter of fact only show what not to do. I wish they would just go away. The black community has the same advantages as any other community, more in some cases. All they need to to is apply themselves and stop bitching! I have known many people who feel this way, I just wish more would listen.

Politicians have been commiting crimes for as long as there have been politicians. We are just now catching up and saying this is wrong. It is about damn time they are held to the same standards as us "common folk".

Yikes. That last comment requires a response, so here it is:

While it's true that McGee is both a racist and a criminal, I doubt he'll write a book....or read one any time soon. I do have to say, though, that you can't accuse a black man of being racist and then in the next sentence, say "Deport him back to Africa" and expect to hold onto any credibility. I'm fairly certain Mike isn't from Africa, nor is is father. Therefore, your wish to deport him "back" to Africa is every bit as racist as anything he has ever said.
