Lame Dreams - Vol. 1
A semi-regular feature in which the author discusses the banal, puzzling and just plain idiotic details of his incredibly lame dreams.THE DREAM: I dreamt about a website for Frank Caliendo’s new show, Frank TV (Frank Caliendo being the former MADtv cast member and noted impressionist, best known for his George Bush and dead-on John Madden). Apparently, fans could send Frank suggestions for celebrities they’d like to see him impersonate, because there was a section on the site called “Rejected Impressions.” This week’s rejected impression was Ice-T, whom Frank felt was inappropriate for impersonation due to the Body Count song, “Cop Killer.” In a lengthy commentary, Frank explained that even though he believed in freedom of speech, he felt a song glorifying the killing of police officers was like “pissing on the ashes of the American flag.” Upon further inspection of the site, I discovered that a previous “Rejected Impression” was the band Luscious Jackson.
WHERE THE DREAM LIKELY CAME FROM: Last night, accompanied by my friends Eva B. and Brent Goodsell, I paid a visit to the new-ish Milwaukee restaurant/bar/hipster-brunch-joint, The Good Life. A commercial for Caliendo’s show came on the bar’s TV, and Eva asked who the hell he was. I explained that he was that one guy who did that funny John Madden impression, and that he was from Milwaukee and had graduated from UWM. Following this thrilling exchange, the bartender called last call, and we shagged ass over to the Red Room.
WHY THE DREAM WAS LAME: Not only was it about a TV show (unseen by me), it was about a fucking website for a TV show. The fact that it involved Frank Caliendo is also lame, though I admit to being something of a fan (his John Madden is pretty fucking genius). Additionally, the bands referenced in the dream are very, very 90’s (Luscious Jackson?), making me both lame and old. Oh, and the “ashes of the American flag” thing is the title of a shitty Wilco song.
As always, feel free to discuss.

Just like you, Matt Wild plays (played?) in a rock and roll band and is constantly broke. He has all his original hair, however, and weeps openly at baseball games.
