MILWAUKEE, WI – WUWM 89.7 FM Milwaukee Public Radio announces the departure of Jane Hampden, host of Lake Effect, WUWM’s weekday magazine program.

Hampden came to Milwaukee in 1996 as an anchor for WISN-TV (Channel 12). She joined WUWM in 2003 and began hosting Lake Effect the following year. Hampden is leaving WUWM to take a teaching position with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.

"It's been a great privilege to work on the Lake Effect program,” says Hampden. “I often hear from listeners who appreciate WUWM's commitment to local issues. It's hard to leave, but I know the staff will continue bringing interesting Wisconsin voices to the program, and I'll enjoy them as a listener."

She plans to continue with WUWM as a contributor to both Lake Effect and WUWM News.

Says Mitch Teich, Lake Effect’s Executive Producer, "Jane's impeccable journalism credentials, her personality, and her passion for this program will be missed by both the show's staff and our listeners. It's been a privilege to work with her, and I'm hopeful that she'll contribute to the program in the months and years to come."

WUWM will begin a national search for a new host for Lake Effect. In the interim, Executive Producer Mitch Teich and Arts Producer Bonnie North will share hosting responsibilities on Lake Effect.

Lake Effect airs weekdays at 10 a.m. and 11 p.m.
